leader John Irving victory for second placed Ross McIntosh and a big win for
Alan Faulds saw a change in the positions at the top.

Henderson League
The
Henderson League positions remained unchanged following Monday’s top v bottom
clashes. John Irving continues to lead by one point from Ross McIntosh with
Alan Faulds a further two back. David Hewitt sits in fourth followed by Norman
Cummings with George McNeill propping up the table.
John
Irving got off to a flyer in the first match, against KO semi opponent Norman
Cummings, with a four at the first end. John was seven up before Norman got his
first shot but five shots over the next two ends gave him a commanding lead
which was topped off by a three at the final end. Final score
15 – 3.
In match two Ross McIntosh also got off to a
good start with a three at the first end against David Hewitt. Five shots down
after five ends there was a glimmer of hope for David when he picked up a three
at the sixth but it proved to be a false dawn as Ross won the final two ends to
emerge victor with a score of 8 – 4
George
McNeill’s miserable season continued against Alan Faulds. Four shots down
playing the last end George’s hopes of a victory were raised as, with only
Alan’s final stone to be played, there was a chance for a big score. George
could only stand and watch as Alan’s stone slid into the head to secure the
shot and an 8 – 3 win for Alan.

Monday
night saw the annual challenge against local rivals Abercorn. After losing on
the last two occasions, victory by both Linlithgow rinks gave President Tom
Lambie the pleasant duty of accepting the Champany
Trophy from his opposite number Quentin Allerdice. Linlithgow
now have a three to two lead in this competition.
Alan
Faulds and his rink of Ross McIntosh, Stuart Milne and George McNeill started
his match against the Abercorn rink of Alan Cochrane, Alan Lawrie,
Heather Birrell and Fiona Davidson by dropping a shot
but hit back with a four at the second end to take a lead he never lost. A
three at the fifth end and a two at the sixth helped him to an overall score of
10 – 2.
Things
were much closer in the second game where Linlithgow’s David Hewitt, John Irving,
Tom Lambie and Anne MacIntosh took on Quentin Allerdice, Shelagh Arkley, Harry Brodie and John Aitken representing Abercorn. David and Quentin swapped
scores over the first four ends. David was 4 – 2 ahead at that stage but a
three at the fifth saw Quentin take the lead. The match was decided at the last
end where David had an open draw with the last stone to pick up two shots and
win the match 7 – 6.

Following the penultimate round of Bennie
matches things could not be tighter in the race for the title with Tony Smith and
John Barrett tied at the top on 6 points and plus 19 shots.
League leader Tony started his match against
Andy McGregor with a three at the first end to add to the four shot penalty
awarded as Andy unfortunately took the ice with only three players. Tony
continued to build his lead with ones at the second and third ends before Andy
finally got off the mark gaining a one at the fourth and a three at the fifth.
Tony scored a further three shots and Andy two to leave the final score 12 – 6
to Tony.
John Barrett swapped ones with Tom Lambie at
the first two ends but then a run of four, five, two and one saw him overwhelm
Tom who at least had the consolation of a one at the last end, final score 13 –
2
In the third match Jenny Pickwell was too
strong for Bob Watson, a four, a one and a two at the first three ends gave her
a comfortable lead. Bob hit back with a five at the fourth end but is was not
enough as he and Jenny swapped ones over the last four ends to leave the final
score 9 – 7

John Irving returned to the top of the league
following his victory over George McNeill and Ross McIntosh’s defeat at the
hands of Alan Faulds.
John opened the match with twos at the first
and third ends and a four at the fourth saw him 8 – 1 ahead at the half way
stage. A three for George at the sixth end got him right back in the game but
John picked up singles at the last two ends to finish 10 – 5 ahead.
Alan was quick out the traps against Ross
picking up three twos and a one at the first four ends to lead 7 – 0. A three
at the fifth end gave Ross some hope but a one at the sixth and a five at the
last gave Alan a comfortable 13 – 3 victory.
In a dress rehearsal for their KO tie, David
Hewitt met Norman Cummings in the final match. Norman opened the scoring with a
three at the first end, David replying with a five at the third. At the half
way stage there was all to play for with David just ahead at 6 – 5. David’s
team then hit form to win all the following ends and secure the points with an
